THE SPOOK SCHOOL: SXSW DIARY
Edinburgh indie-pop quartet The Spook School headed over to SXSW armed with a bag of factor 50 sunscreen, catchy tunes and a mobile phone camera. Here is their visual diary of their time in Austin.
We made it to SXSW! Greeted at the airport by Austin’s world famous vending machines!
We immediately befriended the locals. Here we are charming cactii (that’s the plural of cactus don’t you know!)
Our tour manager was a legend. Always looking out for us.
She even watched over us while we slept. Fist bump!
When we weren’t busy playing shows Adam Todd’s DJ side project was really taking off.
The shows we played were pretty dangerous…watch out Nye and Niall!
We learned that wearing shades and being in the shade was super cool. Literally. The heat was killing us.
It wasn’t all plain sailing. Niall and Adam fell out over a discussion about Austin’s best public bench.
We even had to set rules for the shows.
There was so much vegan food in Austin! Niall even tried to eat it through his nose!
Our favourite Austin vegan restaurant Counter Culture had the best toilets! Fuck the gender binary!
We learned to fit in with the locals. Howdy Niall!
Adam even turned into one of Austin’s famous ‘Moody Banks!’
Adam and Anna contested the inaugural SXSW ping pong tournament. It was declared a draw due to the ball not actually being able to bounce.
After cramming in ten shows we were pretty tired.
Some of us were so tired we gave birth to tiny dogs.
We had the best time being sunburnt silly sausages at SXSW. Queer, tipsy, and the cutest four people to squish into a photo booth.
Spook Schools album ‘Try To Be Hopeful’ is out now on Fortuna Pop Records
