PUTAHRACSA: CONTEMPORARY CHIC IN HUA HIN
Nestled in the Malay peninsula Hua Hin is the formal residence of the King of Thailand and is the getaway beach resort for Bangkokians. Just a 2.5hr drive away from the capital it is an ideal location for a Thai trip if the thought of another flight isn’t your idea of fun.
For bar hopping, night markets and contemporary chic: Putahracsa
There is a contemporary coolness to Putahracsa that is effortless. Functional yet relaxing in the otherwise busy metropolis the split resort (on opposite sides of the road there is a beach on one side and one of the restaurants on the other) caters for the style conscious traveller.
An excellent location in the heart of Hua Hin, and just a 10 minute walk to the town’s vibrant night market, Putahracsa is ideally placed.
The spacious rooms are kept cool with mosaic tiled floors and natural materials are mixed with harder concrete surfaces. The muted palette of Greys and Browns keep the rooms light and airy while the small balconies allow for a pre-dinner chill out and cocktail.
Our Silksand Deluxe Room is full of facilities; opposite our King sized bed is a smart TV with over 100 films to watch, and there’s free wifi throughout the boutique resort. The bathroom has natural light flowing through and the large walk in shower with Jacuzzi streams – perfect to wash off the sun lotion at the end of the day.
You can book in to the spa or chill out by one of its two pools (one overlooking the sea and the other surrounded by rooms) but the resort offers plenty to keep its guests busy from a handy Tuktuk tour of the area to the excellent thai cooking class where you’ll be taken to the local market to pick up food and then taught how to cook up a variety of dishes.
What to see when you are there:
Hua Hin Train Station: The wooden building used to be a royal pavilion in Sanamchan Palace and was rebuilt at Hua Hin in 1968.
The Night Market: For Thai food lovers the street stalls and surrounding restaurants offer a lively place to try out local dishes. Our favourite is Moo Seafood; a wild boar curry or spicy drunken fish dish are both worth a revisit.
