MATTY MO A.K.A: FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT

LA-based contemporary artist, Matty Mo a.k.a The Most Famous Artist, is known for his bold social media-themed installations, public stunts, and exhibitions to challenge viewers to examine how technology and the internet impact society.

Cue his pink houses, yes, he painted three residential homes his signature shade of pink, from top to bottom, and it broke the internet. And then there was his stunt of selling cash (google it, it’s brilliant).

Well now, he’s gone viral with his latest installation, ‘The Private Jet Experience’ – fake it till you make it springs to mind for this one. He’s come up with a modular selfie installation, designed as a facsimile to a Gulfstream G3 and developed to travel the world. It provides visitors an opportunity to take photos and videos living “the good life” on a private jet, just like all the influencers and celebrities we see on Insta (he’s pretty Insta-famous himself, with over 150k followers).

Matty says on the project, “The Private Jet Experience was created because we wanted to be able to take pictures on a private jet like all of the celebrities we see online. Most people cannot afford a real jet, so we made one that democratizes access to a backdrop previously reserved for the rich and famous.”

The installation reflects the narcissism, overconsumption, and extravagance that has become a norm nowadays, “With The Private Jet Experience, we are purposefully commoditising a symbol of excess, ultimately nullifying the status boost people receive from posting photos on real private planes, thereby forcing everyone to be more creative and seek out the next great symbol of influence,” explains Matty Mo.

The jet is currently located at Fred Segal, 8500 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles until the 21 November. It will then move to Art Basel Miami and onto a wider tour next year. Register for free and check out the stops (there will be over 30) on their website selfiecircus.com.
