MARCELL VON BERLIN store opens on Friedrichstrasse in Berlin.
The progressive and innovative style of the designer has found its clear home in the MARCELL VON BERLIN store, spread across almost 600 square metres and two separate levels. Like Marcell’s designs, the store also bears his unmistakable flair. By incorporating prestigious and contrasting materials, exciting effects have been created and made even more of a highlight thanks to clever lighting. The exposed, raw concrete found in the store is combined with opulent accents consisting of materials such as marble, leather and velvet.
Customers enter the store through the stylish corner entrance and find themselves before an impressive staircase that connects the two selling areas. Hanging above them at a ceiling height of almost 7 metres is a large, metal lighting installation fashioned out of antique industrial tubes – making for an exceptional feature that is just as jaw-dropping from outside as it is inside.
On this ground floor, customers can discover the women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collections before taking a seat on the vintage armchairs by the lavish, dark brown marble bar to enjoy a coffee or sophisticated beverage. There’s a kiosk next to the changing rooms that is designed in the style of a typical Berlin Späti (late-night food and drinks shop) and gives customers a fully unexpected surprise, offering sweet and savoury foods. The Späti, as locals call it, is heavily symbolic of Berlin and reflects the designer label’s affinity with the German capital. ‘This store represents the fulfilment of my long-cherished dream of designing and opening my own retail space. Friedrichstrasse, in particular, has always been a symbol of exclusivity for me. The interior that comes alive through its exciting contrasts, like straight lines and softness put together, for example, is something that I identify with perfectly while, at the same time, it gives my customers a clear image of my style. My collections are shown in the perfect light in this space’ – as the designer puts it.
The upper floor hosts the exclusive haute couture line for women. Models of exclusive dresses, jumpsuits and pantsuits, produced painstakingly by hand, hang here from a round, metal display that allows each piece to be seen from any angle. The store’s back rooms are home to the designer’s atelier where all collections are created, where the designer comes up with new designs and where he and his team bring custom-made pieces to life.
