JOHN PAUL FAUVES: A LOSS OF INNOCENCE
‘A Loss of Innocence’ is the latest exhibition by super-talented artist, John Paul Fauves. Self-described as a “neo-pop expressionist” his solo exhibition can now be seen at the Guy Hepner Gallery in association with The Tax Collection. The artwork explores our own humanity as we mature, becoming increasingly desensitized, and ultimately grow farther away from our incorruptibility as children. We interview the artist to find out more.
‘A Loss of Innocence’, what is this exhibition about?
It’s a solo show in Guy Hepner gallery NYC curated by Tax Collection. The main theme is the loss of innocence we all experience in our lifetime. Everybody is going to be using hand-made masks with the intention to separate the spectator from the external world. The main goal is to create an atmosphere where no one can judge or be judged, liberating fears we carry from this superficial society. This and the feelings you can get from each art piece, are just part of my search with the audience of our essence lost in the turbulence of society.
Why Mickey?
The Hedonist Mickey is a figure that seeks pleasure no matter the consequence. Mickey being a worldwide iconic figure of innocence, represents the hedonist lifestyle that tempts us all. In this mad world sometimes just one bad choice can guide you to a dark hallway – sometimes never finding the way out.
Who do you look to for inspiration?
Jean M. Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Willem de Kooning, Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso.
Do you have a favourite piece in the collection?
I believe that each art piece is a snap picture of the soul of the artist in that moment. So I’m very proud of all my art – to me, it’s like looking at an old picture album of my life experiences. In this case when I see my art, I see my soul experiences and how they all contribute to my universal growth in my life purpose. So they are all my favorite.
What’s next for you?
After this show, we will go to Belgium in June and we are negotiating a couple more destinations to close the innocence art tour. I’ll then be onto my next project.
