Tattoo blog Inkluded is collaborating with Deasil Art Gallery to present an exhibition featuring artwork by a selection of UK tattoo artists from 3 – 20 October 2015 at Deasil Art Gallery, Leamington Spa.
This multimedia exhibition will showcase the work of 15 tattoo artists through different mediums. They will be creating custom artwork on a variety of materials – rather than their usual approach on skin, they’ll be using paper, ceramic, canvas, and more. All artists are currently working on their pieces, and they won’t be fully revealed until the exhibition opens. Inked Palette will feature tattoo photography and exciting installations to interact with and explore. There will also be artist sketches and drawings to offer an insight into the day to day life of a tattoo artist working in the UK.
Founder of Inkluded, Beccy Rimmer, is passionate about the thinking behind the exhibition. “At Inkluded, we’re passionate about showcasing and sharing the craft of tattoo art and making information about this thriving industry available to those who may be new to it. This country’s creative tattoo scene is fast-growing and flourishing with talented artists, remarkable artwork and innovative styles – we thought it was time we unveiled the creativity and originality of the UK’s tattoo mastery through this exciting exhibition.”
Deasil Art Gallery’s owner and curator, Kate Livingston: “here at Deasil, we like doing something different. Inked Palette will really push the boundaries of a traditional exhibition. It will challenge both the artists involved and people who come and see it. Tattooing is a selfless talent that more tattoo artists should be recognised for. We want to make this exhibition fully accessible for everyone, no matter what their knowledge, background or experience with tattoos.”
Cardiff-based tattoo artist and one of the artists showcasing work in the exhibition, Shaun Von Sleaze, commented: “it’s nice for there to be a physical place where the general public can have access to the work we can create. Unfortunately, tattoo artists are still bunched into a hole that doesn’t really fit, I’m not sure it ever did. Art is art regardless of placement and it would be nice to show that we are artists, not what an outdated stereotype likes to portray.”
Deasil Art is a new gallery situated in the heart of England, in Leamington Spa, with direct trains to a whole host of major UK cities including Birmingham Oxford, Manchester, York, London and Reading.
