FRESCOBOL CARIOCA’S ARTIST IN RESIDENCE: JOHN BOOTH
Known for his exuberant creative expression, Booth draws inspiration from the Brazilian sun, sea, and sceneryFor Spring 2025, Frescobol Carioca has announced a partnership with London-based multidisciplinary artist, John Booth. Known for his exuberant creative expression, Booth draws inspiration from the Brazilian sun, sea, and scenery, capturing the vibrant spirit of Rio de Janeiro through his colourful lens.
A Collection Aglow with Positivity and Colour
This new collection encapsulates the lighthearted joy of life through vibrant colours. Anchored by summer sets in uniquely vibrant combinations, the collaboration features unexpected hues and innovative print applications. A standout piece in the ready-to-wear line is Frescobol Carioca’s first: fine linen adorned with a bold scenic stamp, creating matching sets in two distinct colourways. In swimwear, the bestselling sport fit receives an energetic update as Booth reimagines the iconic Copacabana wave with a kaleidoscopic twist, using the brand’s signature recycled fabric.
Versatile Pieces for Every Occasion
Designed to pair with swimwear or your city weekend wardrobe, the transitional cotton Rosa t-shirt features an enchanting sunset over Sugarloaf Mountain, a nod to hazy Carioca summers. In accessories, 100% silk scarves are emblazoned with the collection’s themes in full bleed for a glorious pop of colour. Additionally, a cotton tote bag and the renowned Frescobol bats feature spirited floral designs, reflecting Brazil’s vast natural beauty.
A Personal Touch from John Booth
“It was so nice to return to designing textile prints for this project with Frescobol Carioca, as that has always been something I’ve loved coming back to over the years,” says Booth. “The prints for the collection are a direct translation of my drawings on paper, which are based on capturing brightness and joy.”
Celebrating Artisanal Heritage
This collaboration marks the inaugural Artist in Residence, a tribute to the brand’s artisanal heritage. Tracing back to 1930s Brazil, Lian Pontes, an entrepreneur and artisan specialising in woodwork, handcrafted the original beach bat from driftwood, founding the game of frescobol on Copacabana Beach. His legacy of craft and design remains at the heart of Frescobol Carioca, inspiring ongoing collaborations with global brands and independent artists.
