FREE SCHOOL: LOVE CALLING
Birmingham’s maximalist cosmic voyagers, Free School, are back. This time with a vengeance. This time with a message. It’s what the world needs now. It’s Love Calling. Love Calling is a cosmic epic featuring the shamanistic vocal stylings of Tomlin Mystic, a truly mysterious wise man who speaks in poetry and took time off from toasting with the Friendly Fire Band to grace this track.
The single is backed by a remix of ‘Don’t Make Your Life So Hard’ by Sam Redmore, a regular on Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul Show on 6Music. He’s gone full-on Terje, firing off nu-disco bombs left right and centre.
This is the second single from forthcoming album ‘Dancing On The Dark’, following the release of single ‘Hudson’s Whistle’ in February which garnered multiple plays on 6Music. The album will feature guest vocalists Maps, Katy Prado, Sigmund Frued, Tomlin Mystic and long-time live cohort Greg Bird.
Free School have been successful in acquiring the Moog Sound Lab residency which is part of the ever-awesome Supersonic Festival. For two days, they’ll be playing with a huge wall of analogue Moog synthesisers with the aim of creating some new audio protein.
Free School released their critically acclaimed LP ‘Tender Administration’ in 2011. This followed two 12” EP releases, featuring remixes from Richard Norris (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve / The Time & Space Machine) and Mark E (Ghostly International) and a string of remixes for the likes of Roots Manuva, Phil Oakey and Maps (Mute). Their cosmic delights have won the support of Lauren Laverne, Gilles Peterson & Gideon Coe. The duo’s live show has seen them support Editors, Andrew Weatherall, Walls, Ulrich Schnauss and Fujiya & Miyagi.
