DISCO DRAG BRUNCH AT TIBITS
Tits up and tassels-to-the-ready! Glamour-puff’s very own TV queens were the crowning glory at south London restaurant, tibits. Giving props to an entourage of esteemed darlings in drag, this was the second Disco Drag Bottomless Brunch.
Think funny side up, not sunny side up – this isn’t how you might expect your Sunday hangover cure to be served. But the high octane camp and vegan buffet offerings are off-set with drag entertainment. It’s absolutely a thing now, drag breakfasts’, and the phenomenon is slowly starting to meander from London, outwards.
Devoured by straight audiences, these appetising Sunday mornings have in the past taken place at The Fence in Farringdon, the Breakfast Club in Shoreditch and moved onwards to Revolution in Glasgow, Paradise Palms in Edinburgh and all the way back down to the Ivy in Brighton.
Take to the delights of sauce served with extra sauce at tibits, one of London’s leading vegan and vegetarian restaurant groups. Team Fused went along this month and collectively got through 10 free glasses of Bellini with the limitless drink token that lasts 90 minutes and comes as part of the drag brunch deal.
The occasion’s line-up features RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Vinegar Strokes and DJ MYNXIE – each queen looking one in vermillion with all the glitz, and glam, tassels and tits you’d come to expect of a nightclub hostess. A highlight was the entire room getting up to sing along to the Spice Girls.
Expect this time it’s not even gone 5pm.
Held in a contrasting garden room that’s all glass roof, it’s a wonder the ceiling didn’t shatter with some of the excited shrieks from the audience. But Miss Vineger Strokes kept her cool and guests pumped for the afternoon of bottomless bubbles and a veggie buffet.
A handful of prize-yielding games were also added for good measure, including Lip Sync For Your Life and a Disco Dance Off. The winner got a voucher to spend in the restaurant.
Joining Ms Strokes will be her BFF DJ MYNXIE, known for her incredible sets at some of London’s best nightclubs and drag events. To make sure the brunch was banging, MYNXIE played some a favourite disco tunes from 1995 with her own unique camp twist and monochrome tartan from the nineties, to boot.
The tibits autumn menu included over 40 dishes to choose from on the ‘Food Boat’, including Vegan Shakshuka, Fluffy Pancakes, Mac & Cheese and Kale Kimchi. I went for a risotto and vegan sausage.
There are two ticket options for these special afternoons – the £20 option will gain guests entry to the afternoons festivities and a hearty main plate from the tibits food boat. For an extra £15, guests can bolt on bottomless prosecco, fruity Bellinis and Freedom Beer for 90 minutes.
