How would you describe your visual style?
It is a mixture of classical art, high fashion and modern pop culture.
Where do you source your imaginary // what are your favourite sources of collage material?
Anything can really inspire me. The inspiration usually comes unexpectedly after I’ve been to an exhibition or watched a movie/TV series, listened to a song, but also from everyday situations.
Please tell us about your technique. Your collage’s have a great number of elements in them and at times look pretty psychedelic.
From the beginning it was important for me to create photorealistic collages that I break through with psychedelic or surreal elements. I like to confuse the viewer a little bit, so that he only realizes that it is a collage when he looks closely.
Can you tell us about your process and do you have any rules?
There is only one rule! I have to enjoy it. I don’t start any work that I don’t feel, because inspiration for a work can only come when you can imagine yourself in it.
The process is therefore simple, I research a lot until I find the right thing that touches me or appeals to me.
Please describe the space where you do most of your creation – whether it’s your art studio or sofa.
I work from a very nice and bright studio in the centre of Berlin. For me order is everything, I can only work if everything is clean and tidy. But that does not mean that I do not appreciate creative chaos, on the contrary.
You trained in fashion. What was it that initially drew you towards making collages and when did you first discover your creative talents?
I was creative already as a child. At that time I wanted to become an architect, which can be seen strongly in my collages. Later I found my love for fashion and so I decided to study fashion design and communication design in Munich. After my studies I worked for a few years as a designer but also for the Conde Nast publishing house. About three years ago I felt a very strong desire to move more towards art and above all to be free, so I decided to become an independent artist. I was very lucky at the beginning, because I had a lot of orders from Italy. Therefore I am very grateful to the country, the people and the culture.
Is there a running theme to the work you create, or do you just make whatever comes to mind?
The themes that interest me most are of course nature, city and people and how they all interact with each other.
What’s the weirdest thing you have ever created?
I don’t think I’m there yet.
When you first started collage, what other collage artists did you run into that remain your favourites today?
There are several collage artists that I like, but I draw my inspiration from the work of directors like Tim Burton or Wes Anderson or from the photographers like David LaChapelle, Erwin Olaf and Alex Prager.
It would also be one of my wishes to direct one day.
In these strange days of home quarantine and isolation how do you keep motivated?
Music. I could not live without music and that motivates me a lot.
What kinds of ideas and things are you working on at the moment?
I have the opportunity to exhibit for the first time, the concept and ideas I am working on at the moment. Probably it will be in spring/summer 2021. Parallel to that, I still have a lot of projects for customers that are currently postponed to summer.
What are you looking at for inspiration currently?
Nature and Netflix
What have been some favorite recent projects // clients // collaborations?
I like them all, because I choose them. But I am currently very excited about my work with MONCLER. To be continued.
What do you enjoy doing when not creating art?
Reading and listening to music.
If your work had a soundtrack, what songs would be on it?
Even though I was only born in 1986. The music from that decade is the soundtrack to my life and to my work.
