CAMPING TOURISM: A GATEWAY TO NATURE AND ADVENTURE

Camping Tourism: A Gateway To Nature And Adventure

The modern world provides us with an unprecedented stream of stimulation. When we feel the tug of boredom, we need only reach into our pockets and scroll through Instagram, TikTok or YouTube in search of stimulation.

It might seem paradoxical, then, that the camping holiday is on the rise. This kind of break is, by nature, extremely slow-paced and non-digital. But that’s the whole point! When the world is connected like never before, it pays to disconnect while you’re on holiday. The classic camping holiday provides a chance to do exactly this.

Let’s consider some of the major psychological and practical benefits of this form of break.

Connecting with nature

The right camping trip will bring you right up close to nature. You might be a short stroll from a picturesque stretch of woodland, a hike through rolling farmland, or an unspoilt sandy beach. If you have your own motorhome, you can even travel to remote sites where no camping facilities exist. Or, you could even try wild camping – just be sure that you’re familiar with the law, and you’re not pitching a tent where anyone might object to it.

Unplugging and enjoying simple pleasures

A ‘digital detox’ is a self-imposed exile from social media. A camping trip provides a great way of making it easier, not just to take a break from your screen, but to keep that break going for the long term. If you don’t have any signal, you’ll be less tempted by distraction.

After a few hours, you may find it easier to concentrate on what truly matters. Simple exercises like reading a book, sketching landscapes, or even just sitting and listening to the wind through the trees, might once again be able to compete for your attention.

Family Bonding and Shared Experiences

Many of the simple pleasures we’ve just touched on can actually be shared with a family. A camping trip is a great way to bond with those nearest and dearest to you. You might go on long hikes together in the daytime, and then retire for the evening, perhaps dragging a board game out from beneath the chairs at the back of your motorhome, or playing cards in the light of your campfire.

Diverse Camping Options

Campers now have access to an incredibly broad range of options. You can go away glamping, or stay in a motorhome (provided that you have the appropriate motorhome insurance).

In other words, you don’t have to stray far from your favouritecomforts if you prefer not to. If you’re put off by the idea of having to walk through the rain to go to the toilet in the woods, or of having to put up your tent in the middle of a howling gale, then you needn’t be: there’s a camping option to suit your tastes.
