Art Explora Festival: A Unique Cultural Journey Across the Mediterranean
Discover Art Explora Festival: A Unique Mediterranean Cultural Experience
The Art Explora Festival is a free, travelling cultural festival that will sail around the Mediterranean until 2026, bringing art and culture to diverse communities. The festival will make its next stops in Tangier from September 20 to 29 and in Rabat from October 11 to 17. The festival is curated by Laila Hida, assisted by Inès Yahiaoui, and in partnership with Le 18, a multidisciplinary cultural venue based in Marrakech.
Art Explora Festival: Experience Art on a Museum Boat and Beyond
The festival takes place on board a museum boat that can welcome up to 2,000 visitors a day. It offers immersive art experiences in collaboration with world-renowned institutions like the Louvre Museum and IRCAM x Centre Pompidou. On land, there will be exhibitions in quayside pavilions designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and in various venues throughout the host cities.
A New Era of Traveling Art Festivals
The year 2024 marks the launch of Art Explora’s one-of-a-kind travelling festival, combining art on a museum boat designed by Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier with exhibitions on land. This 47-meter-long museum boat, with a 55-meter mast, features sails designed by artist Laure Prouvost that carry a universal message of unity. The boat is a symbol of adventure and discovery, connecting cultures and communities as it sails from port to port.
Festival Highlights: What to Expect
- Exhibitions on the Museum Boat: Experience curated art displays on the museum boat in Tangier and Rabat.
- Quayside Pavilion Exhibitions: Explore unique exhibits in pavilions set up quayside in Tangier.
- Live Art Programs: Enjoy live performances and art programs curated by Laila Hida, taking place at the Agora – the festival’s central stage – and various venues across Tangier and Rabat.
Laila Hida, the curator for the Moroccan ports of call, describes the Art Explora Festival as a “daring, innovative proposal that challenges conventional formats for presenting and representing art.” She emphasizes that the immersive experience on the boat and in the exhibition village encourages artistic expressions related to popular and vernacular traditions around the Mediterranean.
