A POSTCARD FROM JORDAN ALEXANDER: TORONTO THROUGH MY EYES

Greetings from Toronto!

Hey there! It’s Jordan Alexander here, writing to you from the heart of my favourite city, Toronto. As I prepare to release my debut album, Now You’re Caught Up, I can’t help but reflect on how much this city means to me and how it has shaped my journey.

Scared To Get Close
First off, let me tell you about my latest single, “Scared To Get Close,” featuring Omega Mighty. The remix has taken a life of its own, thanks to Haviah Mighty and Taabu, who added an island/afro vibe that’s truly magical. Omega’s verse was the missing piece, and now it feels like the song is finally complete. Toronto’s music scene never ceases to inspire me with its rich diversity and creative energy.

Filming Adventures
The music video for “Scared To Get Close” was a blast to shoot, especially when we had to think on our feet and head to the Underpass Skatepark on a rainy day. It’s just one of many places in Toronto that I love. You’ll often find me hanging out at It’s Okay Studios, a wonderful space that prioritizes community and creativity, and Rooms Cafe in Baldwin Village, where the live vinyl spinning sets the perfect mood.

Album Inspirations
Now You’re Caught Up is a snapshot of my life, with Toronto’s neighbourhoods playing a starring role. “Scared To Get Close” captures the longing I felt walking home from Queen West, while “Playing In My Head” brings back memories from Christie Pits Park. Riverdale Park holds a special place in my heart, offering an inspiring view of the Toronto skyline that always sparks my creativity.

Music and Magic
Though I don’t often go to live music events, I cherish my performances at The Drake Hotel and Horseshoe Tavern, both iconic venues here. If you’re ever in town, don’t miss the Royal Ontario Museum’s nighttime parties – they’re a unique blend of music, food, and art.

Hidden Treasures
For those looking to explore beyond the usual spots, check out It’s Okay Studios for a dose of community and artistry. Sunnyside Beach and Riverdale Park are my go-to places for a moment of peace and inspiration by the water. And don’t forget Gladday Book Shop, the world’s oldest LGBTQ+ bookshop, which doubles as a fantastic event space.

Fashion Finds
Fashion is becoming a big part of who I am. You’ll often catch me browsing vintage shops like Tribal Rhythm on Queen and Vintage Outlaw in Kensington Market. Toronto is bursting with talented designers, like Vveyago, who crafted the stunning outfit Haviah Mighty wore at the Junos.

Toronto Must-Sees
If you’re planning a visit, here’s my perfect day: start with a matinee at Imagine Cinemas, stroll through Kensington Market for some vintage shopping, and wrap up your day with a cozy tea at Cafe Carbonic in Baldwin Village. Each spot offers a unique taste of Toronto’s vibrant culture.

Home and Away
Moving from Toronto to New York for Gossip Girl was quite the adventure. While I embraced the excitement of NYC, I often found myself missing Toronto’s familiar streets and the iconic CN Tower. This city is filled with memories and opportunities, and I’m grateful for the chance to call it home.

Inspiration in Every Corner
If I were to write a song about Toronto, the ever-present CN Tower would be a central theme. This city is a canvas of memories, and while leaving was bittersweet, it made me appreciate Toronto even more.

Thanks for joining me on this little tour of my Toronto. My debut album, Now You’re Caught Up, is out on September 4th, and I can’t wait for you to hear it. Until then, sending love and inspiration from the 6ix!

Love,
Jordan x

As Jordan Alexander prepares to unveil her debut album, her trajectory as a multifaceted entertainer continues to soar. Transitioning effortlessly between acting, modelling, and music, Jordan’s creative journey began in the outskirts of Toronto, where she was inspired by pop and rap icons like Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac. After her breakout role as Julien Calloway in Gossip Girl, Jordan spent two transformative years in New York, immersing herself in the fashion world and connecting with the city’s underground art scene. During this time, she honed her music production skills and embraced solitude, leading to the creation of her debut album.

Influenced by contemporaries such as Latto, Sexyy Red, Charli XCX, and Karol G, Jordan aims to deliver a smart, powerful, and sexy pop album that challenges the status quo. As she embarks on this exciting musical journey, audiences can expect an album filled with infectious beats and thought-provoking lyrics that push boundaries and inspire change. Keep an eye on Jordan Alexander as she continues to redefine the landscape of entertainment with her unstoppable energy and undeniable talent.

Speaking on the album, Jordan said:

Now You’re Caught Up is a snapshot, it’s being sucked into the distorted mind of me heartbroken. All the songs on the album are different variations of me processing a situation. I thought I had found a true love and then everything just got all fucked up. I was trying to find what made sense after being so wrong. Throughout the album I tell the story and have various perspectives and moods. This album is my first cohesive piece of work, it’s raw and authentic. When I was writing the album I had no idea I was writing an album, I was just existing, and my form of existing is making music.”

Jordan’s debut album Now You’re Caught Up is out on 4th September.
