THE BLACK FOREST SPA TOWN OF BAD HERRANALB
The spa town Bad Herrenalb in the Black Forest is the newest Green Pearls destination. The town is uniquely located amidst seven valleys of the Black Forest in Germany’s third largest nature park Black Forest Central/North. Since 2016, the city is certified as “Sustainable Destination,” emphasizing its commitment to sustainability on an environmental, economic and social level.
According to the motto: “Learning implies protecting,” various adventure trails have been set up in recent years, enabling visitors to explore nature in harmony with the environment. Further initiatives of the city administration include the protection and preservation of the forest and biodiversity, as well as close-to-nature and environmentally friendly sports and leisure activities.
For Bad Herrenalb active climate protection is an important subject. Together with external engineers a concept was developed which reduces the energy consumption of buildings and facilities: Improvement of heat insulation in the Kurhaus Bad Herrenalb, cogeneration unit for the Siebenthäler Therme and a pellet heating at the city hall in Bernbach.
Supporting the regional and local economy, promoting regional agriculture in order to minimize hauls, developing an eco-friendly transportation infrastructure and supporting a sustainable lifestyle for citizens are further measures of the sustainable commitment alike.
Since 2011, Bad Herrenalb has been promoting electric mobility. Visitors can rent pedelecs, e-bikes and electric cars during their stay, e-cars can be filled up at two filling stations, all measurements contributing to eco-friendly mobility in the sustainable destination Bad Herrenalb.
