CAPTIVATING CREATIVITY: A STAY AT BIJAL RESORT

Captivating Creativity: A Stay at Bijal Resort

Imagine a place where the sunsets feel otherworldly and the crystal-clear seawater shimmers against a horizon of soft white sand. This is Antalya, the Turkish Riviera, where the Mediterranean coast in southwest Türkiye unfolds with a serene blend of nature, history, and culture.

Antalya’s storied past, shaped by Greek, Roman, and Ottoman legacies, adds layers of intrigue to its modern-day charm. While tourists flock to the beaches, there’s so much more to uncover beyond the sands. The region’s archaeological treasures, dating back to the fifth century BCE, offer a fascinating look at ancient civilisations, from Alexander the Great to the Byzantines.

The ancient city of Perge is a must-see, rumoured to be the site of the Trojan War’s victorious Greek army. Its UNESCO-recognised ruins, including a theatre, sports stadium, collonaded streets, and bathhouses, make it an archaeological wonder. Side, another historic gem nestled in the shadow of the Taurus Mountains, is equally captivating. Once a bustling trading hub, it’s home to the Temple of Apollo, where five towering columns still stand against the turquoise coast—a setting steeped in mythology and history; legend even has it that this was where Anthony met Cleopatra.

Discover the Turkish Riviera: Bijal Resort’s Idyllic Location

In contrast to these ancient wonders, the newly opened Bijal Resort offers a modern, tranquil escape just a short walk from Side. The resort seamlessly combines sleek contemporary design with nods to traditional Turkish aesthetics.

Its beachfront location is complemented by lush landscaping, private cabanas, coconut leaf umbrella-loungers and attentive service that ensures every need is met—down to chilled hand towels and sunscreen.

With just 19 bungalows, the Bijal Resort is an intimate retreat. Each bungalow is designed for ultimate privacy, with wooden shutters and surrounding greenery. You’ll find thoughtful touches like a private garden, sundeck, and outdoor pool or tub.

High-tech features include customisable climate control via iPad, premium sound systems, and Dyson hair tools, while the minibar and coffee setup cater to both indulgence and practicality. And of course, there is always your private butler to help out. The attention to detail is unsurpassed, which is no surprise when you realise that the hotel is owned by the Gürok Group – the force behind Joali Maldives and Joali Being.

Unwind with Creativity: Art Workshops and Beachside Relaxation

The resort’s commitment to creativity shines through its on-site art studio, which hosts workshops led by rotating artists-in-residence. During our stay, we joined Brixton-based artist Venetia Berry, known for her dreamy, watery palettes, to create our own canvas inspired by the coastal landscape. For quieter moments, the beachside library and games area invite playful relaxation, while bikes are available for exploring the scenic surroundings.

Michelin-Starred Dining and Bespoke Amenities at Bijal Resort

Dining at Bijal is an experience in itself, with menus crafted by Michelin-starred chef Theodor Falser. From leisurely buffet or a la carte breakfasts to fine Italian dining at the ClubHouse and relaxed meals at the BeachHouse, every meal is an indulgence.

The resort’s spa is a highlight, with a Turkish bath, steam room, and sauna, alongside treatments inspired by ancient traditions. Fitness enthusiasts aren’t left out, thanks to a state-of-the-art gym complete with a Reformer Pilates machine (booking with a Personal Trainer is required).

Bijal Resort offers a peaceful alternative to the crowded, sprawling hotels of the Turkish coast. Yet, if you’re in the mood for a change of scene, Side’s Old Town and Harbour—alive with chic restaurants, shops, and two millennia of history—are just 15 minutes away by taxi.
